The Maple Leafs continue to look for a top-six forward, but are currently in limbo as they wait to see if contract demands for a top free agent change to their liking.

As the Leafs continue to try to move the contracts of David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok with little engagement, they are also keeping tabs on the top remaining free agent forward.
Adding Matias Maccelli, Dakota Joshua and Nicolas Roy as part of a way to replace Mitch Marner, none are proven top-six options. While Maccelli seems to have the inside track to land in the top-six, he remains unproven in that role and is coming off of a down season.
That has led the Leafs to hold discussions with free agent Jack Roslovic throughout the off-season.

Maple Leafs Waiting on Change of Contract Demands For Jack Roslovic

Roslovic remaining unsigned is a bit of a surprise to many across the league, despite teams having far more cap space than previous off-seasons. Likely due to a combination of teams prioritizing re-signing their own free agents and a high, long-term asking price from Roslovic TSN's Chris Johnston believes that the 28-year-old may have to shift his asking price, which could open the door for the Leafs to land the former teammate of Auston Matthews without having to make too many additional moves otherwise, the Leafs may be out of the running due to his reportedly high asking price.
"The decision probably is a short-term deal to put himself in a position for longer term success. I still think there are a few teams out there... I think it comes down to cost," said Johnston. "It might not make the most sense for them, but let's see where the market goes for him."
In terms of fit, Roslovic would add an additional scoring threat to the Leafs' top-six, however there are plenty of detractors pointing out the similarities between him, Maccelli and Domi and that he doesn't particularly fit the mold of GM Brad Treliving or head coach Craig Berube.
