Patrik Laine's test results are officially in for the Canadiens, and the news is not good following the hit from Leafs' Cedric Pare.

During Saturday's clash between the Maple Leafs and Canadiens from The Bell Centre in Montreal, Leafs forward Cedric Pare attempted to complete a check on Laine as the Finnish forward was surging into the offensive zone with the puck. Unfortunately, as Laine made his move, the knee of Pare made clean contact with the knee of Laine, sending the latter corkscrewing to the ice in extreme pain.

This whole ordeal is very unfortunate for Laine, and as fans from around the NHL await the anticipated update, I'm afraid it's not a great update.

According to reporter Steve Kouleas, his sources have confirmed that Laine won't even be able to suit up for a single game for the Habs this year. He is done for the 2024-25 season.

Tough blow for Laine, who was recently acquired by Canadiens in a deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets. This was supposed to be a fresh start for the former 2nd overall pick. Now, a surgery and a lengthy stint on the sidelines seems to be on the horizon.

As an interesting layer in all of this, the Maple Leafs open their season in Montreal against the Canadiens on October 9th. Even though Pare will not be on the Leafs' roster, we should still expect a very rough game between the two bitter rivals.
