The Leafs are expected to get a boost to their forward group on Wednesday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets, with one key forward, Matthew Knies, reportedly ready to return.

November has been a disastrous month for the Maple Leafs. Not only have they tallied one win in their last 8 games, but they have lost Auston Matthews, Nicolas Roy, Matthew Knies, Chris Tanev, Brandon Carlo and Anthony Stolarz to significant injuries.

Berube hopeful Knies, Matthews and Roy available on Wednesday

Following Tuesday's practice, which saw the trio of Matthews, Roy and Knies participate in the traditional grey 'scratches' jerseys, Leafs head coach Craig Berube was rather optimistic that he would have one or more of them available for the team's first game of their five-game road trip on Wednesday.
As the Leafs prepare to take to the ice for Wednesday's morning skate, Berube may get his wish -- at least a part of it.
According to Nick Alberga of Leafs Morning Take, there is a "good chance" that Knies will be suiting up for his first game since November 15th tonight against the Blue Jackets.

Knies return could see veteran scratched

If Knies were confirmed to be returning, based on the line rushes at practice on Tuesday, Berube may look to scratch Dakota Joshua or Matias Maccelli as they were both relegated to the fourth line, flanking centre Jacob Quillan.
Neither has done much for the Leafs this season, with Maccelli already having been a healthy scratch once. However, it may be what the former Utah Mammoth forward needs as he tallied 3 points in two games upon his return to the lineup in early November.
For Joshua a scratch will have been long overdue, as he has not contributed much this season for the Leafs.
Confirmation of Knies' return as well as the potential returns of Matthews and Roy, should be known following the morning skate.
