Maple Leafs forward Scott Laughton spoke with the media over the weekend, and it's clear from his comments that his priorities are in order.
The Maple Leafs are back in the win column following a strong showing in Philadelphia, with the club picking up its first road win of the season with a 5-2 victory.
The win came at a cost, as
Chris Tanev was lost to injury once again, after a hard collision with
Matvei Michkov sent his head snapping back in his first game back from a concussion. A second head injury appears to be what's ailing him, though there's no confirmation on that just yet.
Laughton Comments on His Recovery
While on the injury front, it's hard not to bring up Scott Laughton's name, as the veteran forward has been out since training camp after blocking a shot with his foot.
Laughton is inching his way towards a return, and on Friday, he spoke with reporters, stating that the hardest thing about being hurt isn't the pain, but the inability to play the game.
"Some days are definitely harder than others... it's hard watching. That's the toughest part, just sitting up there and watching when you want to be out there. You want to be around the group and be involved."
Laughton Misses Game Against His Former Flyers
Laughton has been pushing himself harder and harder with every practice, and was originally projected to play in Philadelphia, though Leafs head coach Craig Berube opted to leave him scratched for at least one more game.
The former Flyer credits the Leafs' return to play staff with getting him prepared for his imminent return, and implied that while he could have potentially played this weekend, he knew he wasn't quite 100% yet.
"The staff here has been great with me. I'm working with them and just trying to get back as soon as possible... I don't want to be out there if I'm not at my best. I want to be able to help. So yeah, it's tough some days, but it's been good overall."
Laughton was acquired by the Leafs at the trade deadline for a package that included former Leafs prospect
Nikita Grebenkin and a 1st round pick.
While his start with the club last season was not particularly strong, Laughton did start to adjust late in the season and into the playoffs. He was also performing quite well in the pre-season before he suffered his injury.
