If the Leafs want to bolster their roster for the playoffs, they'll need to act fast. Chris Kreider of the New York Rangers could be just the player they need.
According to the article "KREIDER STILL IN PLAY FOR RANGERS AS DEADLINE NEARS" from The Fourth Period, Kreider is available, and the Rangers have made it clear they are actively seeking a trade for the 33-year-old veteran.
Kreider has had a down season by his standards, recording just 21 points in 48 games, one year removed from a 39-goal, 75-point season. Regardless, Kreider made Team USA for the 4 Nations Face-Off, a clear indication that he can still play at a high level.
However, the major hurdle for the Leafs in acquiring Kreider is his hefty $6.5 million contract, which runs through 2027. If the Maple Leafs do pursue a trade, they will need a third team involved to help retain salary.
Whether or not the Leafs land Kreider, they are actively looking to acquire more than one player to strengthen their roster as they aim for a deep playoff push under head coach Craig Berube.
