The Steve Dangle Podcast sat down and evaluated what the Maple Leafs would have to sign Anthony Stolarz to as he enters a pivotal contract season.

A relevant topic to follow heading into training camp is the contract situation between Anthony Stolarz and the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have reportedly begun talking about an extension.
However, the million dollar question is going to be what do the Leafs actually sign him to? As great as he has been over the last 2 years, his 34 games played last season set a career-high in what was his 8th year in the league.
The Steve Dangle Podcast tackled this topic and believes that there should be something on the horizon, considering GM Brad Treliving's history for signing guys before they take off.
There is a history there of locking guys up before they do the thing. It's a wait and see because he only has like less than 100 career starts as a starter. It's not a lot, last year was his first season as an NHL starter, and he didn't even make it through that season.

Jesse Blake added that the risk of not signing him before the season starts is that if he does improve on last year's numbers then he can easily go from a projected $5 million AAV to $8 million without a doubt.
So this season, once again full time starter, he can go out there start 50 games and have a .950 SV%, and all of a sudden his number is 8 million. Brad Treliving does have a history where he's going to lock him up for 3 years at something like 4-5 million, before he peaks at his best, so they're looking at that right now.

Adam Wylde then likened the situation to Vancouver with Kevin Lankinen. The Finnish netminder earned a 5-year contract that pays him $5 million per season and he totalled 163 games with 150 starts before he signed the contract, which is basically in line with Stolarz.
The more years that Stolarz earns on his contract, the better the AAV for the Leafs. However, the risk-reward exists based on his lack of experience versus the possibility that he has finally clicked as a legitimate starter in the NHL.
Nevertheless, the Leafs have found themselves in a great position between the pipes, and with negotiations having already begun, look for both sides to try and find a way to get this done before the year begins.
