As the Leafs prepare to kick off their playoff run, Nick Robertson's fate for Game 1 between the Maple Leafs and Senators appears to be known.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are set to open their series against the Ottawa Senators tomorrow, and with the lineup now taking shape, internal competition for ice time is heating up.
Last year, Robertson was a healthy scratch in Game 7 against the Boston Bruins. This time around, his role looks much different.
As per Mark Masters on X:
"Nick Robertson, who was a scratch in Game 7 against Boston last year, taking reps with PP2 at practice so looks like he will remain in the Leafs lineup for Game 1
Max Pacioretty & David Kampf expected to be options for Craig Berube in this series."
Robertson is currently slotted on the third line alongside Bobby McMann and Pontus Holmberg, and he's also earning time on the power play with the second unit-a sign of growing trust from head coach Craig Berube.
This season, Robertson skated in 69 games-his most in a single season-recording a career-high 15 goals and 22 points.
While his offensive production has been a positive, it's his attitude and tenacity that have stood out. Despite being in and out of the lineup, he's embraced every opportunity, showing maturity and consistency in his effort.
As the Leafs prepare to face the Senators in round one, there's a different energy surrounding the team. The buzz around the league-from both players and executives-suggests that this Toronto squad is one of the most well-rounded playoff rosters they've had in years. Under Berube's leadership, the Leafs appear poised to make a serious run.
