With the Maple Leafs rumoured to be working the trade market, a trustworthy source has shot down a very popular trade rumour that might upset some in the fan base.

A lot of rumours started to come about shortly after Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving made it known that he was working diligently on the phones to get a trade done in order to address a hole in his top-6.
A very popular trade target over the last few years has been former Leafs forward Nazem Kadri, who currently plays for Treliving's old team in the Calgary Flames. Treliving signed Kadri to a long-term deal in the summer of 2022 before being relieved of his duties shortly thereafter.
Although it's known that Treliving has contacted the Flames a few times since being hired in Toronto, we can seemingly put the Kadri rumours to rest after David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period shot that rumour down -- rather convincingly as well.
"I think they [the Flames] would entertain it [moving Kadri], I just don't see a fit with Toronto."
Leafs Morning Take host, Nick Alberga, then asked what it would take for both sides to start a conversation and hypothetically get a deal across the line before Pagnotta once again shut it down, claiming a fit just doesn't make sense for either side at this moment.
"If you believe what Craig Conroy is saying, that's they want to stay competitive, then I don't see a fit that makes sense for both sides."

Since being traded, Kadri has scored 146 goals and 353 points in 424 games over the last 6 seasons. That includes a career-high 87 points in 71 games in 2021-22 with the Colorado Avalanche, that saw him later hoist the Stanley Cup.
It's been a little up-and-down for Kadri since signing in Calgary, however, the 34-year-old has remained a consistent part of their attack with 88 goals and 198 points in 246 games, which also includes his career-best showing of 35 goals this past season.
The Maple Leafs, it appears, will have to look elsewhere for their target as the Flames don't seem like the greatest trade partners at this very moment. Nevertheless, never count out Treliving as he seeks to secure a solid piece for his top-6.
