Ahead of the Maple Leafs' Monday night matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning, there is some news coming out of Toronto regarding Calle Jarnkrok and Anthony Stolarz.
Stolarz returned to the ice last week as expected, and faced shots from the Leafs' coaching staff again Monday morning as he works towards a February return.
Jarnkrok, who, as mentioned, has been out since training camp, has been skating recently, but this is one of the first times he has been on the ice ahead of a morning skate for the Leafs, rather than just skating solo.
Although there is no timetable for his return as of yet, if he continues to progress positively, the Leafs may not have to spend nearly as much at the deadline for a forward as some have predicted.
The 33-year-old had 10 goals and 21 points for the Maple Leafs in what was an injury-riddled 2023-24 season.
Prior to his injury earlier this season, Stolarz was in the midst of what some may consider a Vezina-like campaign, posting a 9-5-2 record with a .927 save percentage and 2.15 GAA in 17 games in his first season in Toronto.
With both players skating with one another on Monday, the next step will be to get them back to a point where they can rejoin their teammates in a more formal practice setting. It's likely that Stolarz reaches that point before Jarnkrok.
