New York reporter claims Maple Leafs on the verge of trading Mitch Marner
According to his confidential source, one New York reporter is claiming that the Maple Leafs are working on finalizing a trade involving Mitch Marner.
The Bleacher Report's Rob Reinhart took to social media on Monday afternoon to report that the Toronto Maple Leafs have engaged in talks with the Utah Hockey Club that would see the NHL's newest team acquire Marner. He also put his name on the line when he confirmed Marner's time in Toronto is over.
Although the final terms of the deal have not been disclosed, it's been confirmed that Marner's time in Toronto is over.
An official announcement is expected sometime this week."

The reporter seems to be taking a lot of heat on Twitter/X as a result of the report, which is somewhat unbelievable considering the fact that none of the traditional NHL Insiders like Elliotte Friedman, Chris Johnston, Kevin Weekes and Frank Seravalli seem to be reporting anything on the subject - though Seravalli did publicly re-affirm on Monday that Marner would not be extended by the Leafs.
Obviously, it's too early to say for sure whether there's anything to this one, or if it's just another rumour from an unreliable source. If it rings true, Reinhart will find himself with a much stronger reputation as a reporter. If not, well, farming engagements like that is a bad look that could be very harmful to his reputation.
Marner registered 26 goals and 85 points in just 69 games for the Maple Leafs in 2023-24.
