New Leafs winger Matias Maccelli met with the media Monday where he revealed how he found out he was traded to the Maple Leafs ahead of free agency.
It sounds like a tall order for the 5-foot-11, 2019 fourth-round pick, but he and the Leafs are hoping he returns to the form that he had exhibited from two seasons ago.
In a 2024-25 season that saw Maccelli post just 18 points in 55 games and multiple healthy scratches, he reportedly requested a trade out of Utah, which ultimately landed him in Toronto.
Maccelli met with the Toronto media for the first time on Monday, where he revealed that he was actually on the golf course when he found out he had been traded to the Leafs. Elaborating, Maccelli shared that he was lining up a putt before his friend started shouting that he had been traded.
"I didn't make that putt," said the new Leafs winger in jest.
Maccelli also shared with reporters that Toronto was a preferred destination of his and he is looking forward to a fresh start in the blue and white.
"Definitely, right from the start, I told my agent that I would love to play for the Leafs."
"I'm super excited for this opportunity to play for the Leafs. Can't wait to get going and into the City of Toronto and to meet everyone there. Super excited."
As the Leafs continue to look for offense by committee to replace Marner's 102 points last season, Maccelli appears to be the first step towards a solution.
