New Maple Leafs Forward Nicolas Roy Blown Away By Obvious Improvements of One New Teammate

The Toronto Maple Leafs are taking part in their annual golf tournament on Monday ahead of the start of training camp this week, and they have already held multiple "captains skates", which are informal practices run by the team's leadership group.

Last week, a report had emerged, with Leafs coach Craig Berube suggesting that Morgan Rielly is coming to training camp in phenomenal shape. One of the Maple Leafs' newest additions, Nicolas Roy, has corroborated Berube's story.

Roy, who took part in the captains skates this past week, revealed that Rielly was noticeably better than he recalls from playing against the longest-tenured Leaf for a number of years.

Roy was the piece that the Maple Leafs were able to pry out of Vegas when Mitch Marner was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights just before the start of free agency. He recently revealed that he was actually a Maple Leafs fan growing up, despite the fact that he grew up in Quebec.

Rielly was reportedly very unhappy with how his game looked last season, and really wanted to put himself in a position to enjoy a lot more success in 2025-26.

Kudos to Rielly for recognizing that his game wasn't quite up to par with where it needed to be and actually doing something to improve over the summer. The Maple Leafs will be a better team for it.
