Nicolas Roy, one of the newest members of the Toronto Maple Leafs, told reporters that there is a big difference between playing hockey in the USA and in Canada.

With players back in Toronto, and the Maple Leafs gearing up for the start of the 2025-26 NHL season, one of the newest members of the team is happy to be back in his home country.
Nicolas Roy hit the golf links with several of his new teammates today for the Maple Leafs annnual charity golf tournament, which will certainly help in the team-bonding department.
Besides discussing the obvious improvement of Morgan Reilly at training camp when Roy met with the media on Monday, he was also asked about playing on a Canadian team NHL team for the first time in his career.

Roy told reporters one of the biggest differences between suiting up for an American team versus a Canadian one is the pressure that comes along with it.
"It'll be different for sure. Big market, Canada. I mean, it's always nice to have a little pressure. That's what you play for. So it'll be different, but I'll enjoy it for sure."

The Pressure of Playing in Canada is Something New Maple Leafs Forward Nicolas Roy is Looking Forward To

Roy, who grew up in Quebec, Canada, was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes. He played parts of two seasons there before getting traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in 2019. He was the key return in the trade that sent Mitch Marner to the Golden Knights after last season ended.
With a new forward group giving the Maple Leafs a new look this year, Roy told reporters his experience of winning a Stanley Cup with the Vegas Golden Knights is what he's hoping to put front and centre with the Maple Leafs.
He added he's "very highly motivated," which is great news for the organization. He's also pretty versatile, being able to play a responsible defensive game, but still add some tertiary scoring, as well as being able to contribute on the penalty kill and on the team's 2nd power play unit.
