New Leafs Forward Michael Pezzetta Chimes in on Leafs-Habs Rivalry From the Other Side

Former Canadien and new Maple Leafs forward Michael Pezzetta weighed in on the passion and excitement of facing Montreal, this time from the opposite bench.

Pezzetta signed a two-year deal worth $787,500 AAV with Toronto this offseason. A Toronto native, he admitted that the opportunity to play for his hometown team was something he couldn't pass up.

While Pezzetta has his sights set on cracking the Maple Leafs' opening-night roster, the challenge may be tougher than expected. Toronto's forward depth is among the strongest in years, and the competition at training camp has been fierce.

The emergence of Easton Cowan -- a standout in camp and earning praise from head coach Craig Berube -- has only increased the pressure on bubble players like Pezzetta.

Still, even if he doesn't make the opening-night lineup, Pezzetta is expected to see action during the season. His physical, hard-hitting style and willingness to drop the gloves fills a void left after the departure of veteran Ryan Reaves.
