New Leafs forward Matias Maccelli Reveals Which Line He'd Like to Start With in Toronto

Acquired by the Leafs on June 30th for a conditional third-round pick, 24-year-old Maccelli spoke with reporters on Monday, revealing that he was in the middle of the golf course when he found out he was joining the Leafs.

The former fourth-round pick also discussed where he sees himself fitting into the Leafs' lineup and who he wants to play with.

Maccelli also said that he would love the opportunity to skate alongside Auston Matthews if that's where the coaching staff ultimately sees a fit.

The Leafs and Maccelli are both hoping the 24-year-old returns to his 2023-24 form that saw him register a career high 57 points in 82 games. Last season was a far cry from that production as he posted just 18 points in 55 games.

As the Leafs look to replace Mitch Marner's 102 points by committee, Maccelli is the first step in that process. GM Brad Treliving is still working on bringing in some additional pieces to help out his forward group, but with teams not exactly cap-strapped with the rising salary cap, it's been difficult to try to facilitate any additional deals.
