Matias Maccelli has established two primary goals heading into his first season as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and they're lofty ones.

The acquisition of Matias Maccelli was one of the Toronto Maple Leafs' bigger moves this summer as they decided to focus more on depth than going after big names following the departure of Mitch Marner.
Maccelli is only 2 years removed from a 17-goal and 57-point campaign that he notched with the Arizona Coyotes. The move to Utah didn't bode too well for his game as he stumbled to just 8 goals and 18 points last season.
Nevertheless, the Leafs are very excited about his potential, and considering he also scored 49 points in 2022-23, it seems like last year might have been an anomaly of sorts for the 24-year-old Fin.
In attendance at the Maple Leafs' annual Leafs & Legends Charity Golf Classic, Maccelli opened up about what he would like to achieve in his first year with the Leafs, and has essentially tabbed 2 primary goals for the 2025-26 season.
First of all it would be nice to play playoffs for first time. Obviously, that's the goal and to win is the most important thing. And then for myself, I want to have a better season than I've had, make it the best one of my career, and enjoy it, have fun.
Maccelli is looking forward to the idea of playoff hockey and trying to win the Stanley Cup, which wasn't necessarily possible during his first few seasons in Arizona and Utah.
With the Leafs having qualified for the playoffs in 9 straight seasons, Maccelli hopes he can help the team make it an even 10 this year, while also going a step further in helping them get over the hump and winning the Stanley Cup.
Maccelli also mentions a personal goal for himself is to have a career-season, which could be granted if he finds himself on a line with either of Toronto's star centres, whether that's Auston Matthews or John Tavares.
His playmaking could better suit Matthews and Matthew Knies' goal scoring, however, if Craig Berube wants to use Max Domi in that spot, playing down the order with Tavares and William Nylander would afford him some strong possibilities of a career year as well.
Having been an offensive contributor at all levels in his career, look for Maccelli to put behind his disappointing 2024-25 campaign now that he's a member of the Leafs.
