New Info Comes to Light; John Tortorella Fired For Inappropriate Behaviour After Loss to Leafs

When the Maple Leafs welcomed the Philadelphia Flyers to Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday, it wasn't exactly what anyone would call a warm welcome.

The Leafs shelled the Flyers, scoring 7 goals on the evening in a 7-2 win, with the line of John Tavares, Bobby McMann and William Nylander combining for 10 points.

The big news coming out of this game, however, was the prompt dismissal of Flyers coach John Tortorella, who was let go less than 24 hours after the loss. Until now, we didn't know exactly what the reason was for his firing. Now, the truth has come to light, and it would appear as though inappropriate behaviour for an NHL coach was the reason for Tortorella's termination.

Per Kevin Kurz and Frank Seravalli, Tortorella's firing stems from an incident between he and young defenseman Cam York, with both parties reportedly crossing the line.

While the Flyers could not terminate York's contract for his involvement in the exchange that resulted in Tortorella losing his job, he was forced to dress on Thursday evening and sit on the bench all night, not taking a single shift and finishing with 0:00 TOI.

It's still early, and it hasn't been made clear what had occurred between York and Tortorella to cause the disciplinary action on both sides. I'd imagine, though, that we haven't heard the last of this one.
