Meredith Gaudreau, the wife of the late Johnny Gaudreau, bids him a heartbreaking farewell

On Thursday evening, tragedy struck when NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew Gaudreau, lost their lives after being hit by a drunk driver, Sean Higgins, while out cycling the day before their sister's wedding.

Johnny leaves behind his wife, Meredith, and his two young children, while Matthew tragically leaves behind his wife and unborn child as well. He was set to become a father for the first time this year.

In a rare moment of clarity in such a chaotic and devastating time, Meredith has taken to her personal Instagram account to say goodbye to her husband in one of the most heartbreaking moments you'll see. She added 20 photos of her and Johnny.

She also made a subsequent post about what type of father Johnny was. Again, another absolute tearjerker.

This horrible tragedy could have all been avoided had the driver, Higgins, simply did not drink before getting behind the wheel. Instead, in an instant, he changed the lives of multiple families in one fell swoop, all in the name of chasing a buzz while driving recklessly on a country road. There are no words.
