Newly-extended Matthew Knies has revealed some interesting information regarding his new deal with the Maple Leafs, and it goes against every major report.
The Toronto Maple Leafs' offseason is in full swing, with key players re-signed, a few trades already made, and new additions joining the roster.
Knies emphasized his desire to remain with the Leafs long term, as shared by Terry Koshan on X:
"I just wanted to be here as long as possible. I wanted a longer term. Excited to get it done and get it done before free agency. A bridge deal was not in my head."
Knies Will Need to Step Up After His New Deal With the Maple Leafs
Knies is coming off of a breakout season in which he recorded 29 goals and 29 assists for 58 points in 78 games. He also stepped up in the playoffs, scoring 5 goals in 13 games, delivering in several clutch moments.
With the Maple Leafs moving on from Mitch Marner, Knies will be looked to as a core offensive contributor to help make up for the loss of scoring.
