It's been mostly quiet on the Mark Giordano front since the conclusion of the 2023-24 season. While most of his peers have gone on to sign new deals, Giordano, soon to be 41, remains an unrestricted free agent in search of a new home in 2024-25.
The veteran blueliner, and the NHL's all-time shot blocking leader, has always given 100% of himself to the game that he loves, yet despite producing a career-low 9 points in 46 games last season, Giordano still believes he has something to offer an NHL team in search of an experienced defenseman.
As far as potential landing spots go, no teams have been mentioned as frontrunners quite yet, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Gio sign a PTO somewhere, given his advanced age, as teams may want to see how much gas is actually left in the tank prior to making a commitment to the Toronto native. I'm fairly certain, though, that his tenure in Toronto is over, given the Leafs' additions on the blueline this summer. At the very least, if he is back, it won't be as more than a #7 or #8 defenseman.
