Joseph Woll made some big saves for the Leafs, registering his first shutout of the season, which led to his teammates trolling him during his post-game interview.
Devastated by injuries, Tuesday's win over the New Jersey Devils was truly a team effort for the Leafs -- and one of their best games of the season.
They knew they would be without Chris Tanev, William Nylander and Dakota Joshua, but were hopeful to have their captain, Auston Matthews, available. Unfortunately, Matthews was ruled out moments before puck drop.
Without their top offensive players, the Leafs were carried offensively by Nicolas Roy, Bobby McMann and Nick Robertson -- all of whom registered two points, while Joseph Woll stood tall in net, stopping all 33 shots he faced.
Leafs Arena Crew and Fans Show Support for Woll
At the end of the second period, with a scrum at the top of his crease, Woll stood calm, watching as the Leafs' in-game DJ played "Wonderwall" by Oasis. For those of you who live under a rock, at the appropriate time, fans usually sing along and change the lyrics to 'you're my Joseph Woll'. That's exactly what occurred last night.
Whether Woll heard the music and fans is something that he wasn't asked about following the game, but it shows how much the former third-round pick has endeared himself to the City of Toronto.

After securing the victory and the shutout, Woll was being interviewed outside the Leafs' dressing room by Sportsnet's Shawn McKenzie. Knowing this, the Leafs turned up the volume on the music as Wonderwall could be heard in the background as Woll took part in the interview.
Woll Continues Red-Hot December
Since returning from his leave of absence, Woll has providing a calming presence in goal for the Leafs. The 27-year-old has posted an 8-4-1 record to go along with a .920 save percentage and 2.51 GAA.
While those numbers are impressive, Woll's December has been off the charts. Following Tuesday's win, he will close out the month 6-1-0 in seven appearances, registering a 2.26 GAA and .926 save percentage and one shutout.
