The Maple Leafs have announced that they have signed a 6'2, 202-pound center to a 3-year entry-level deal ahead of what should be a challenging training camp.
Earlier Monday afternoon, the Leafs placed 22-year-old Ty Voit on waivers as Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving continues to move on from the previous regime's prospects.
The 2021 fifth-round pick and the Maple Leafs mutually agreed to part ways with his contract set to be terminated on Wednesday. Voit struggled with injuries in his first year as a pro, missing the majority of the season and spent last season in the ECHL.
The 6'2, 202-pound center joins the Leafs on a three-year entry-level contract after spending last season in the WHL with the Edmonton Oil Kings. There, the 19-year-old skated in 47 regular season games recording 45 points (19 goals, 26 assists).
After dealing Fraser Minten to the Boston Bruins in the deal for Brandon Carlo at the deadline, the Leafs were left thin at center from a prospect perspective. In signing Holinka, the Leafs are hoping he will be able to take a step this season, and there's certainly a good chance that he will.
