The Toronto Maple Leafs have provided an official update on forward Scott Laughton, who was taken out of Saturday's game with a terrifying injury scare.
Not only did the Leafs lose the game on Saturday, but midway through the third period, Scott Laughton took a stick to the eye from teammate Oliver Ekman-Larson and immediately headed to the Leafs dressing room holding a towel over his face.
The injury appeared to be severe and probably sent many Leafs fans back to when Bryan Berard took a Marian Hossa stick to the eye more than a decade ago.
Thankfully, Laughton escaped with only some stitches, according to Craig Berube.
"He got a stick in the eye. He is fine, though. He had to get some stitches."
It doesn't sound like the Leafs will be without Laughton for any period of time, which is good news considering their previous deadline acquisitions in Nick Foligno and Ryan O'Reilly both missed significant time after joining the Leafs.
The team will need Laughton and fellow newcomer Brandon Carlo to help reset the team heading into a very busy week with four games in six nights beginning with the Calgary Flames on Monday.
