Parayko is coming off of an up and down year with the St. Louis Blues, recording 26 points in 82 games during the 2023-24 season. Although the 6'6" right-handed defenseman is not known for his offensive skills, his defensive prowess is well-regarded. Known for his shot-blocking and big hits, Parayko's size makes him very hard to play against.
The Maple Leafs have been lacking the qualities that Parayko brings to the table on the blueline for quite some time. According to The Fourth Period, as of just a few short weeks ago, Parayko remains a target for the Maple Leafs, among other teams, as highlighted in their recent article, "SUMMER TRADE WATCH 2024."
Parayko is currently under contract with a $6.5M AAV deal through the 2029-30 season. While this long-term deal is fair based on the market rate for right-handed defensemen, the Maple Leafs would likely need to move some salary to facilitate a trade. If the Leafs are serious about acquiring Parayko, a deal would need to address both teams' needs and salary constraints, making it a complex but potentially rewarding move.
