A new report has suggested that it's Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving who should be concerned about losing his job, and not head coach Craig Berube.

The 10-10-3 Toronto Maple Leafs keep spinning their wheels, and the frustration is becoming impossible to ignore inside and outside the organization. Toronto expected a stronger start, yet the flat stretches, the blown leads and the stale depth scoring remain stubborn features of this season.
Craig Berube has worn much of the public blame, with some suggesting the Leafs should fire him.
When a roster underperforms, the coach is usually the first target, and fans have circled his decisions with predictable energy. But according to a recent note from Andy Strickland, the heat behind the scenes points in a different direction.
Strickland said on the Cam and Strick Podcast that "the more people I talk to around there and kinda dig into it, I think Treliving is the one who's in trouble, not Chief [Craig Berube]." He added that the people upstairs still strongly support Berube, which shifts the spotlight onto the general manager's decisions.
That view changes the conversation. Treliving reshaped key parts of this roster, betting on additions that were supposed to give Toronto more bite and stability. Instead, the mix has sputtered. Veterans have gone quiet, players expected to take big steps haven't taken them, and the blueline continues to leak high danger chances.
The lack of identity stands out most. Berube's teams usually hit, forecheck and smother opponents, but the Leafs have delivered that style only in short bursts rather than full stretches. Supporters see the inconsistency, but upper management apparently sees a coach still pushing the right messages.

Craig Berube has backing; Brad Treliving feels the urgency

Some fans have turned their attention to the roster itself, wondering if Treliving misread the team's core needs. His biggest moves were framed as playoff driven, yet the Leafs are struggling just to string together wins in the regular season, when the pressure is much lower. That inconsistency reflects poorly on construction more than coaching.
Inside the city, the debate has become emotional. Many expected this season to be a course correction after last year's uneven finish, and patience is thinning. The fact that high level voices reportedly back Berube suggests the organization still believes the coach can fix the team if he has the right tools.
Toronto needs results quickly. If the slide continues, the conversation will only intensify, and all signs point toward Treliving carrying the most pressure as the calendar flips.
