Maple Leafs fire assistant coach Guy Boucher after one season
Guy Boucher just had his first and last season as assistant coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs as he was fired on Saturday afternoon.
Boucher worked on the team's power play that tumbled from second to seventh in the regular season, and had a 4.8 per cent success rate during their seven-game playoff series.
This leaves a vacancy that could be filled by Marc Savard, who was on Craig Berube's staff with the 2019 Blues who won the Stanley Cup. Savard was fired by the Flames in May
He was in charge of the Flames' powerplay that ranked 26th with a 17.9 per cent success rate. Boucher's firing has made the Savard rumours more believable, and it may not be too long before we learn if it is all for real.
