Toronto Maple Leafs veteran enforcer Ryan Reaves has opened up about his future in hockey, indicating that he is not yet ready to hang up his skates and call it a career.

As the Toronto Maple Leafs continue to rework their roster in the post-Mitch Marner era, several players find themselves in uncertain roles.
One of those players is veteran enforcer Ryan Reaves, whose future with the club remains unclear.
Reaves, 38, was waived near the end of last season and didn't suit up for the Leafs again during the regular season or playoffs. With a changing team identity and no clear path back for him, many have speculated that this could be the end of his NHL career.
However, Reaves has made his intentions clear during an appearance on the Cam & Strick Podcast, as shared by LeafsLatest on X:
"I still want to play - I'm 83 games away from 1,000 right now, and I'd love to hold on for another two years, hit that mark, and ride into the sunset. I don't think I've got more than two years left, but the dream is always the Stanley Cup."
While Reaves has set his sights on the 1,000-game milestone, reaching it may prove to be more difficult than it sounds.
He played just 35 games last season, notched 2 assists, and has fought far less frequently with each passing season than he did earlier in his career. His impact on the ice has diminished, making it harder to justify a consistent roster spot -- especially on a contending team.
Still, Reaves remains a respected voice in the locker room. He recently came to the defence of former teammate Mitch Marner, now with the Vegas Golden Knights, criticizing the harsh treatment Marner received from Leafs fans during his time in Toronto.
As it stands, Reaves' path to 1000 games with the Maple Leafs appears unlikely. Given the team's current direction and roster depth, and last season's impact on the team, a trade may be Reaves' best chance to continue his career and reach that personal milestone.
