Maple Leafs forward and deadline acquisition Scott Laughton joined 'Leafs Morning Take' Wednesday, where he commented on his future with the club.

Acquired at the deadline for a first-round pick and prospect Nikita Grebenkin, Scott Laughton struggled when he joined the Leafs for the last quarter of the season.
Tallying just four points in 20 games for the Leafs to end the regular season, Laughton seemingly began to find his game when the post-season began. While he didn't provide much in terms of offense, collecting just two assists, he gave the Leafs what they wanted from him in a dependable defensive specialist that head coach Craig Berube could count on in critical moments.

As he prepares for training camp, Laughton is hopeful that having a few months to adjust to a new team will let him get back to how he was playing in Philadelphia before being traded.
A pending free agent at next season's end, Laughton was asked by co-host of 'Leafs Morning Take' Nick Alberga if he had given much thought to remaining in Toronto beyond the end of the year.
"Yeah, for sure,' the former first-round pick responded. "I think that's something I haven't thought too much into. I think I have to focus on helping this team and hopefully those conversations come."
Eligible to sign an extension as of July 1st, the Leafs and Laughton have not shown much urgency to initiate talks, to no fault of either.
Leafs GM Brad Treliving has been busy re-building his forward group and re-signing the likes of Matthew Knies and John Tavares while kick-starting extension talks with goaltender Anthony Stolarz.
Should Laughton be able to regain his form from Philadelphia and provide the Leafs with a defensively responsible center that can chip in occasionally offensively, there should be no issues hammering out an extension when the time comes, if both sides see the fit continuing.
