Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has revealed what he thought about his team's performance in Game 4 loss to the Ottawa Senators.

While losing is a normal part of sports, the Maple Leafs had several golden opportunities to seal the game in overtime during a four-minute high-sticking penalty but failed to capitalize.
This has reignited speculation that the Maple Leafs once again lack the "killer instinct" necessary to succeed in the playoffs. However, head coach Craig Berube addressed these concerns following the game, as per LeafsLatest on X:
"I don't think that was the case tonight. I thought our team played extremely hard and did a lot of great things. We gave up four shots in two periods.

We defended hard and played hard. Bounces go one way or another. I'm not too concerned about it. I thought our team was ready to go. We did a lot of good things tonight, and it just didn't work out."
Berube refused to accept the narrative that the Maple Leafs lacked a killer instinct, a trait often praised in playoff contenders. Instead, he spoke highly of his players, highlighting goaltender Anthony Stolarz, indicating that his trust in him remains strong despite the loss.
Berube also pointed to bad puck luck and unfortunate bounces. An obvious example of this is the Senators' first goal, that came off of a power play after Max Domi was called for a questionable roughing penalty following a battle with Shane Pinto.
On a positive note for Toronto, veteran John Tavares appears to be healthy heading into Game 5, despite leaving late in Game 4 with an apparent injury.
The Maple Leafs will have another chance to close out the series on Tuesday at Scotiabank Arena, where Leafs fans will be hungry for a victory.
