Top Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan has publicly declared his intentions on where he plans to play ahead of the 2025-26 season, and his declaration is a bold one.
As the Toronto Maple Leafs' roster begins to take shape for the upcoming 2025-26 season, a few spots remain up for grabs, which is intriguing for the team's promising prospects.
One name firmly in that mix is Easton Cowan -- the Leafs' top prospect. He has shown tremendous upside over the past few seasons and appears to be on the verge of breaking into the NHL.
Cowan declared this week that he is ready for the challenge. Speaking on TSN 1050's "OverDrive", Cowan made his intentions clear:
"There's a job up for grabs and I'm willing to work for it."
In the 2024-25 regular season, Cowan recorded 29 goals and 69 points in 46 games, followed by a remarkable playoff run with 13 goals and 39 points in just 17 games, further cementing his status as a quality prospect for the Leafs.
Realistically, his path to the NHL will be slightly easier with Mitch Marner gone and a clear hole being left in the top 6 as a result. To secure a roster spot, Cowan will need to continue to impress when training camp commences, and throughout the preseason. Based on his recent performance, this could very well be his job to lose.
