With Carey Price's era in Montreal nearing its end, the Canadiens may move him to a rebuilding team, opening the door for one last big impact off the ice.
Price hasn't been at full strength since the Canadiens' improbable 2020-21 playoff run, where he posted an insane .924 save percentage and carried Montreal all the way to the Stanley Cup Final.
Since then, injuries have plagued him, as he only played five games in the 2021-22 season, which is the last time he played. With no clear path back, the Canadiens appear ready to move on.
Reports suggest Montreal may be exploring ways to trade Price's contract. Whether it's to open up a roster spot, gain financial flexibility, or avoid the risk of a tampering case, the time seems right. After all, the NHL has cracked down hard on clubs for questionable LTIR situations, with Ottawa even losing a first-round pick not long ago.
San Jose and Chicago make particular sense. Both teams are looking to stockpile picks and prospects, and each could benefit from the mentorship a future Hall of Famer like Price provides.
A young goaltender like
Yasroslav Askarov or
Spencer Knight learning firsthand from one of the greatest netminders of his generation is a huge leg up that many don't have the opportunity of.
Even if
Carey Price never plays again, his presence and knowledge hold tremendous value. And if Montreal is finally ready to turn the page, his next stop could help shape the future of another franchise.
