After placing Max Domi on injured reserve and recalling Nikita Grebyonkin, the Leafs took to the ice for their morning skate on Wednesday.
In a somewhat surprising turn of events during their morning skate, it was Joseph Woll manning the home net and not Anthony Stolarz, who has started five of the Leafs' last seven games.
With the time off, it was expected that Stolarz would start against the Golden Knights, but the Leafs appear to have decided that they would like Woll to get back between the pipes after not having played since November 13th.
After beginning the season with an injury, that saw him land on injured reserve, Woll has struggled to take back the net from Stolarz, who has been lights-out for the Leafs.
Woll didn't get his first start this season until the end of October and had looked to have picked up where he left off in the playoffs stopping 24 of 25 shots in a 4-1 victory.
In five games, Woll has posted a 3-2-0 record with a 2.40 GAA and average .902 save percentage, and will be asked to play an important role on Wednesday against Vegas as the Leafs are without a number of regulars up front including Auston Matthews, Calle Jarnkrok, David Kampf, Max Pacioretty and Max Domi.
As the Leafs will be off again until Sunday, a good performance from Woll on Wednesday may give him the opportunity to make back-to-back starts for the first time since October 31st and November 2nd.
