With the dust settling on the Mitch Marner saga, Leafs GM Brad Treliving addressed his former star winger's comments after it took social media by storm.

Former Toronto Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner took social media by storm last week with regard to his comments about the lack of safety he and his family felt shortly after their elimination from the post-season.
It left the hockey world abuzz with plenty of people claiming Toronto fans are too brash and brazen towards their own players, whereas the other side just wanted this saga to finally come to an end and to be able to move forward.
However, that might not be the case quite yet, with Leafs GM Brad Treliving finally addressing the situation. As the head honcho, Treliving is very aware of the situation but urges that all his players are taken care of and any threat is taken seriously, regardless of where it comes from or it's severity.
In our business, your number one priority is looking after your players, and I think we do a really good job of it. I don't have any concerns that we don't do everything humanly possible to make sure that they're looked after, but in today's world, you never take anything not seriously. In today's world-and it can go for Toronto, it can go for any market with social media-the lion's share of people can have good, honest discourse but there's always the ones that cross the line. It's unfortunate, but we always take every precaution necessary to make sure our guys are looked after.
Toronto Sun's columnist Steve Simmons also poured some cold water on the situation over the weekend, where he mentioned that the Leafs used their own security detail to make sure the coast was clear, but never found anything concerning, essentially corroborating Treliving's stance.
As Treliving alludes to, it's not something to take lightly, especially if the safety of those around you is compromised. No matter your standing or even the nature of the threat, the organization looks into everything to keep their players protected.
Marner and his agent, Darren Ferris, have gone on a bit of a media tour in recent weeks, in what almost seems like an attempt to tarnish the reputation of both the fan base and organization to varying degrees. Hopefully the situation can rest now, especially after Treliving's recent comments, and both sides can move past their strained relationship.
