Maple Leafs forward Steven Lorentz has sent a clear message to his former Panthers teammates ahead of Tuesday's Leafs/Panthers game.
After his success with the Florida Panthers in helping them win the franchise's 1st Stanley Cup, Steven Lorentz chose to take his talents to his home province of Ontario, signing with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He'll face his former Panthers teammates for the 4th time this year on Tuesday night at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida, nwhere he lifted the Cup last June.
But rather than visit with some of his old friends that remained with Florida, Lorentz is putting that on hold and keeping things "internal" with his current club.
"We wouldn't hold it against a guy if he's going to see someone on the other team. But I think just at this time of year, I want to keep everything internal. You want your group to be as tight as possible. Like I said, this is our group, so I'm going to keep it inside the group."
He then explained that part of his reasoning is thanks to the tightness of the standings right now; Lorentz's Leafs lead the Atlantic Division, but the Panthers are hot on their trail.
"Not really. No, try to keep it internal. Obviously, there's no secret what's going on in the standings and stuff. So it's a battle right now. Like I said, it's a new season. So we're trying to win."
Naturally, there are good memories that Lorentz looks back fondly upon in Florida. However, this trip to his former professional home is purely business.
"Yeah, good memories (here). That's in the past. We've got a job to do, so that's the focus right now. I know it's obviously what's happened to happen, but again, we've been on a new team all season, and this is where my heart's at right now, and this is where we want to win. So that's where my mind is."
