Leafs Defenseman Simon Benoit Embarrasses Himself During Leafs' Charity Golf Tournament

With training camp set to open tomorrow, the Toronto Maple Leafs took part in their annual charity golf tournament on Monday -- a lighthearted event that brings the team together before the grind of the season begins.

The tournament also offered a first look at some of the club's new faces, including Matias Maccelli, Dakota Joshua, Michael Pezzetta, and Nicolas Roy, giving them a chance to bond with teammates and meet the media.

For others, it was a chance to showcase their personalities. That was the case for defenseman Simon Benoit, who tried to pull off a classic "Happy Gilmore" style golf swing. Unfortunately for Benoit, his two attempts ended in a complete fail in hilarious fashion.

As per the Toronto Maple Leafs on X:

Since joining the Leafs, Benoit has carved out a valuable role on the blue line. Known for his physicality and steady defensive play, he has become an integral piece of the team's identity.

Last season, he logged 78 regular season games, tallying 59 penalty minutes, 111 blocked shots, and 204 hits. His physical presence carried over into the playoffs, where in 13 games he added 42 hits and 39 blocked shots.

As training camp ramps up, Benoit will need to continue building on that strong play to maintain his spot in the everyday lineup. With a number of hungry players pushing for opportunities, the competition for roster spots will be fierce.
