Coach Craig Berube was very blunt and critical about the play of former Flyers pivot Scott Laughton, despite the Maple Leafs' win over the Colorado Avalanche.

Acquired ahead of the 3PM deadline on March 7th for Nikita Grebenkin and a first-round pick, Scott Laughton was supposed to solidify the Leafs' center position on the third line.
Unfortunately, the 30-year-old has struggled to adjust to his new team, finding himself dropped down lower on the depth chart, now centering the fourth line.
Asked about the forward's struggles since joining the Leafs, head coach Craig Berube was critical, yet somewhat supportive of the former first-round pick.
"I think he's trying to probably play the game without making mistakes and he's overthinking things. Be aggressive, do your thing, and that will come around, I do believe that. He wants to do well and he just has to loosen up and go play. Use your ability. You are a good player. You played in the league for a long time. Just go play. I think he is holding back a little bit. He is too safe almost."
His struggles adjusting to a new team and system are not new, as many players often struggle when they first join a new team. Former NHLer and an ex-teammate of Laughton's, Keith Yandle, believes Laughton will be his old self before long, given how he is a student of the game and seems to ask all of the right questions.
Despite his early struggles with the Leafs and dropping to the fourth line, Laughton has looked better with each game that passes. Yet to register a point with the Leafs, Laughton can provide some offense as he had 11 goals and 27 points with the Flyers in 60 games before being traded, and hopefully he will be able to provide some timely secondary scoring for the Leafs down the stretch -- especially come playoff time.
