Leafs Captain Auston Matthews Shrugs Off Criticism from Senators Fans Ahead of Game 6
Auston Matthews, captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs, insists fans of the Ottawa Senators aren't getting under his skin with their chants
While fans of the Ottawa Senators are likely going to try to get under the skin of Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews tonight, Matthews himself is insisting their efforts are falling on deaf ears.
Games 3 and 4 at the Canadian Tire Centre saw Sens fans mockingly chant Matthews' name when he was on the ice.
If it's getting to the captain, he isn't letting on, telling reporters he doesn't even hear it while he's concentrating on the game.
Matthews has made visible displays of his frustration at certain points in the series, like snapping his stick on the bench during game 5, which saw the Senators get the win to bring the series back to Ottawa for game 6.
He will need to keep his emotions in check, or risk more public criticism from head coach Craig Berube, like he got after game 5.
The Maple Leafs made a pair of intriguing adjustments ahead of tonight's game, putting Pontus Holmberg on a line with Max Domi and Bobby McMann, while Max Pacioretty was moved to the second line with John Tavares, and William Nylander.
Besides those moves, no one was taken out of or inserted into the lineup, and goaltender Anthony Stolarz is getting the start.
