Toronto's heartbreak grows as Blue Jays' World Series loss adds to the city's Game 7 record after decades of pain for Leafs, Jays and Toronto sports fans.

An historic run that ended in devastating heartbreak saw the Toronto Blue Jays fall to the LA Dodgers in extra innings of Game 7 of the World Series on Saturday night, despite owning a lead for the majority of the game.
The Game 7 loss was felt by millions of fans across the country. Some experienced the heartbreak for the first time, but for Toronto sports fans, the feeling is all too familiar.

Maple Leafs Were All In on Jays

Stepping out of the spotlight in October is something the Leafs haven't done since the Jays last won the World Series in 1993.
The Leafs were all in on the run, wearing their jerseys when arriving for games, showing up for Blue Jays home games at Rogers Centre, and ensuring they were able to watch as much as they could from afar.

Jays' Game 7 Heartbreak Adds to Atrocious Record for Raptors, Leafs and Jays

No one understands Game 7 losses better than fans of the Maple Leafs. From the 2013 collapse against the Boston Bruins, to the drubbing they received in Game 7 against the Florida Panthers last season, a loss in those games is almost accepted by fans at this point. With the Jays, though, it was supposed to be different.
The Leafs hold a horrendous 0-7 record in them since 2004, with Auston Matthews himself being 0-6.
Raptors fans have had a little more to cheer about, with the club winning three of five of their Game 7 appearances since 2004, while the Blue Jays' loss on Saturday evens their record at 1-1, and an overall record for all three teams lands at 4-10.

When Will the Streak End?

The last time a Toronto team won a Game 7 was on Kawhi Leonard's infamous buzzer-beater against the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019. Before that, you have to go back to 2004, when the Leafs beat the Ottawa Senators.
For a Toronto sports fan, Game 7 is probably the most painful even to watch with how things have gone over the past 20 years. The Jays were the city's best hope to finally triumph in Game 7, but now, we will have to wait even longer to feel the jubilation and excitement that comes from winning. Perhaps the Leafs could be next.
