A week full of damage control by Mitch Marner also saw his agent, Darren Ferris, doubling down on Marner's rationale for leaving the Maple Leafs.

In Calgary for Team Canada's Olympic orientation camp last week, former Leafs forward Mitch Marner managed to make it about himself, even overshadowing even Connor McDavid's contract discussions.
On Thursday, Marner sat down with Mark Masters from TSN, revealing that mistreatment from fans was a major reason why he left, detailing the need for security after the post-season ended and how the negative comments impacted he and his family, despite trying to block it all out.
Needless to say, Marner's comments about a hostile Leafs Nation led to some very harsh backlash from fans, citing his lack of accountability for the Leafs' short-comings.

Mitch Marner's Agent Doubles-Down on Reason For Leaving

While Marner was doing a press tour in Calgary, his agent Darren Ferris made an appearance on the '100% Hockey' podcast with John Shannon and Daren Millard where he doubled-down on his client's reason for choosing to leave Toronto.
"At the end of every season, instead of being able to breathe and reset, he and the family were bracing for the storm," said Ferris. "The negativity, the blame, the hate, it was directed at him and spilled over to people closest to him. There was a dangerous environment, and at times, police had to be involved. When it came time to make a decision about his future, it wasn't about chasing the last dollar."

Ferris claims that Marner didn't want to leave, but that the end of season treatment this time around pushed him over the edge, also admitting he tried to get Marner to go through the entire "wine and dine" experience, but it was something he didn't want to do.
Considering Marner was asking teammates Ryan Reaves and Max Pacioretty about Vegas, as well as probing Mark Stone and Adin Hill for information on Sin City during the 4 Nations Face-Off, Marner appears ro have had his mind made up before the trade deadline.
As much as Ferris is attempting to help with the damage control, while also supporting his client, they may want to get their stories straight before his first full season in Vegas - or at least get Marner some media training so he doesn't sewer himself the same way he did in Toronto.
