Insider Reveals Pair of Teams Maple Leafs Mitch Marner Is Interested Playing For
Unlikely to return to the Maple Leafs, Mitch Marner will have plenty of suitors, but is reportedly interested in two teams, with one being a divisional rival.
It is believed that the Maple Leafs will seek clarity from Mitch Marner about his future plans in the coming days or weeks, but many expect the pending free agent to test the market on July 1st.
While that doesn't rule out a return to Toronto, it certainly decreases the likelihood of Marner signing an extension with the Leafs.
Two Teams Are Reportedly At The Top Of Mitch Marner's List, Should He Leave Toronto
According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, there are two teams that Marner himself is already looking at joining - one is an Atlantic Division rival.
"I think a lot of the usual suspects for Marner -- teams like Anaheim and Detroit and Chicago will want to get in on it -- I think Marner himself, will probably look at the usual suspects - Florida, Vegas, all the usual teams players want to go," revealed LeBrun on TSN 1050's 'OverDrive'.
To no one's surprise, they are both tax-free States, allowing Marner to bring home even more money on his next deal.
If Marner does indeed sign in Florida or Vegas, or another tax-free State, it will prove that he has been all about the money. Should he choose to sign with the Panthers, however, his legacy with the Maple Leafs will be tarnished for good and he will likely receive less than a warm welcome when the Panthers make their first visit to Toronto next season.
