The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta has shared an update involving the ongoing contract talks between the Maple Leafs and pending UFA goaltender Anthony Stolarz.
Despite some injury troubles, Stolarz did exactly that, playing in a career-high 34 games, posting a 21-8-3 record posting a 2.14 GAA and ridiculous .926 save percentage.
Stolarz and the Maple Leafs Continue Extension Talks
Eligible to sign an extension since July 1st, there has been plenty of debate about how much the Leafs should pay the 31-year-old after just one season as a starter and if they should wait to see if he can carry last year's play into this season.
As training camp is set to begin next week, The Fourth Period's Dave Pagnotta revealed Friday that the two sides have not yet reached an agreement, but that there is no panic from either side.
When Treliving spoke to reporters last week, he was hopeful to have something done sooner rather than later. As for Stolarz, he shared in an appearance on "Leafs Morning Take", which will air next week, that he isn't looking for a specific dollar amount, but simply to be paid fairly.
With the season fast approaching, the two sides may choose to put talks on hold and focus on the season ahead, with Stolarz aiming to prove he is worth a long-term investment. The Leafs have loved what he has brought to the table so far, and are no doubt hoping for a continued relationship that extends beyond this season.
