How The Current Season Suspension Could Really Hurt The Leafs Next Year.

With the 2019-20 NHL season still up in the air, it's leaving lots of challenges regarding the 2020-21 season. The most important will likely be the salary cap situation. Because of the possible lost revenue there's a lot of chatter that the league might be forced to keep the salary cap at $81.5million next season. This would be a big blow for the Leafs as they would sit with $76million of that cap used on just 16 players. It would give the Leafs zero chance to address their blueline issues unless they trade Kasperi Kapanen. They could possibly fill some holes up front by signing Jason Spezza and Kyle Clifford to veteran minimums but still leaves some really big question marks on defense. As of right now Morgan Rielly, Jake Muzzin, Rasmus Sandin, Calle Rosen, Justin Holl, Martin Marincin and Timothy Liljegren would be their only options without signing anybody. A flat cap gives the Leafs $7million in cap space for next year .
