Former Maple Leafs enforcer publicly destroys Mitch Marner, after his horrible play led to a goal in a blowout Game 5 loss to the Panthers.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were dismantled in embarrassing fashion in Game 5, falling 6-1 to the Florida Panthers. With the loss, the Panthers now hold a 3-2 series lead, having won three straight games, erasing the 2-0 series lead that the Leafs once enjoyed.
While several Leafs players have underperformed this postseason, Mitch Marner's struggles in Game 5 were especially noticeable. A blatant giveaway led directly to Florida's third goal, prompting an abundance of criticism from former Maple Leafs enforcer Jay Rosehill on X:
"Marner can play the game one way and one way only. When the going gets tough, a no look spin around backhand up the middle is all he has to offer. It's impossible to win playoff hockey with that. The harder it gets, the worse he gets. Nothing will change my mind"
Marner's future in Toronto is already under heavy speculation, with his contract nearing its end, and growing chatter about a potential move to another team in free agency. His performance in Game 5 has only intensified those conversations.
When asked about the loss, Marner gave a dismissive response, saying the team should "flush it down the toilet" and focus on the next game.
In contrast, captain Auston Matthews publicly held himself and the team accountable, acknowledging their need to step up for the fans.
Despite the criticism, head coach Craig Berube stood by both Marner and Matthews, calling it an off night and emphasizing that the duo has played well overall in the playoffs.
Still, the stakes couldn't be higher. Game 6 on Friday is a do-or-die situation for the Leafs. A loss would end their season-and potentially mark the final game for Mitch Marner in a Maple Leafs uniform.
