With Maple Leafs training camp set to commence next week, Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll are already showing that the competition will be fierce.
After another long summer full of reflection and regret, the Maple Leafs are preparing to give it their best when training camp opens up next week.
An interesting battle brewing ahead of Maple Leafs training camp
Another potentially interesting storyline has Nick Robertson
potentially on the outside looking in again, but there's another intriguing saga brewing as well -- the battle between rising star Joseph Woll and savvy veteran Anthony Stolarz.
Both goaltenders were actually on the ice before the Leafs rookies had their turn, which is a sign that both netminders are looking for any edge they can get before camp opens up.
There's no question that Stolarz was the better of the two netminders last season, and the numbers back that up.
Woll, however, did an amicable job taking over for Stolarz in the playoffs, taking the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers the full 7 games before ultimately falling short of eliminating their biggest threat in the Eastern Conference.
Time will tell how this all unfolds, but one thing is certain: neither Woll nor Stolarz wants the other to have the edge as we approach opening night in early October, and the opportunity to establish himself as the team's 1A option in one of the league's best tandem.
