Top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has dropped a bombshell, revealing that William Nylander pushed to hide an argument with ex-coach Sheldon Keefe that had been captured on camera.
Some headline news to report coming out of Toronto on Friday involving William Nylander and former Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe is grabbing everyone's attention.
Friedman revealed on his most recent edition of his 32 Thoughts podcast that Prime Video had cut a scene showing Keefe and Nylander in a heated argument after the Leafs, Nylander's agent, and the NHLPA pushed them to do so. The exchange reportedly painted Nylander in an unflattering light, raising concerns about how it might shape public perception.
"The organization has protected him a lot. He was Shanahan's first pick. Shanahan really protected him. He was Shanahan's guy... but also, in the first Amazon they did, the series, the All or Nothing, there was a scene in there that the Leafs and the NHLPA and his agent all fought to have taken out -- and it wasn't supposed to happen... The Leafs, the Players Association and the agent, it was an argument between Keefe and Nylander, and those 3 felt strongly that it made Nylander look bad. Initially, Amazon fought it... eventually [the Leafs, the NHLPA and his agent] won their way."
Nylander's hidden clash with Keefe raising some eyebrows
The original All or Nothing release already showed flashes of tension, but this removed confrontation adds a sharper edge to that season's behind-the-scenes mood. Keefe was still establishing his voice as a relatively new NHL coach, while Nylander was navigating the expectations that come with elite talent and a major contract.
