Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb missed an opportunity to help the Cowboys win their season opener Thursday, but it was his post-game actions that had everyone talking.
In the dying moments of the NFL's rain-delayed season opener between the Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles Lamb had an opportunity to extend the Cowboys' final drive, but dropped his fourth pass of the night on fourth down, essentially handing the Eagles the win.
While the 26-year-old star receiver faced immense backlash on social media, it was his comments after the game that silenced most of it and earned back the respect of fans.
"That's terrible. I can't point the finger at anybody else. I take full accountability and everything else that comes with it. As a player, I train for moments like that and the ball to come my way...I need to catch the damn ball."
Marner was the only one of the 'Core Four' to go all season without taking some level of blame for the team's poor performances. His most memorable post-game comment from the past season was when he told reporters the team had to 'flush it (poor performance) down the toilet'.
As we approach training camp, the Leafs and Marner are set to move on, but had the former first-round pick taken some accountability over his nine seasons in Toronto, fans wouldn't have been so hard on him,
and wouldn't have supposedly been the reason he left.
