The Maple Leafs have provided multiple updates, but while Anthony Stolarz's continued absence dominates headlines, Joseph Woll's update slipped through the cracks this weekend.

Craig Berube provided updates on Anthony Stolarz and Chris Tanev on Sunday, which dominated the headlines for different reasons. On the Stolarz front, more uncertainty as the veteran goalie remains away from the ice with no timeframe for a return.
On Tanev's end of things, the team confirmed that he has an upcoming appointment to be re-evaluated as he recovers from what many suspect to be a second concussion in a very short timeframe after his first this season.
However, sandwiched in between those updates, Leafs head coach Craig Berube also touched on Joseph Woll's situation, though that one ended up getting lost in the mix.
Woll's prognosis offered encouragement. The Leafs' young starter was injured Thursday in the 5-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, but Berube confirmed he is "progressing the right way." The coach said Woll is trending toward returning this week, a surprisingly positive update after early fear of a more significant setback.
The Leafs need every bit of stability they can get. With Stolarz unavailable and Woll working his way back, Dennis Hildeby has shouldered the load, while Artur Akhtyamov has backed up on emergency recall.

Joseph Woll's encouraging progress a much needed lift for Maple Leafs

For a coaching staff craving certainty, Woll's upward trend provides a sign of stability. His calm presence and technical precision are essential to Toronto's recent success, and his absence has placed even more pressure on a rookie goaltender.
The lack of movement on Stolarz keeps the goaltending picture unsettled. Toronto had hoped he would return much sooner, and the extended timeline raises questions about how long the Leafs can lean on rookie goaltending depth.
Still, Woll trending toward a return this week is the headline Berube wanted to deliver. For a team battered by injuries and inconsistency, knowing their young starter is moving in the right direction offers real hope.
Woll is 4-3-1 through 8 appearances this season, owning a .928 SV% and a 2.44 goals against average.
