Craig Berube Compares Joseph Woll's Performance Saturday to Hall-of-Fame Leafs Goaltender

Despite giving up 3 goals for the fourth straight game, including two in nine seconds in the first period in Montreal, Joseph Woll was able to stop all 23 shots he faced in the second and third period to help the Leafs complete a shocking comeback against the red hot Canadiens on Saturday night.

Woll made a number of huge saves, including some in the first period to limit the Habs to three goals and give the Leafs an opportunity to dig themselves out of the hole.

His biggest and most spectacular save, however, came with 4:36 left in third period, with the Leafs up 5-3. Nick Suzuki shot a rebound that came off the back boards at what he thought was an empty net until Woll miraculously dove and got the knob of his stick in the way.

Following the game, Craig Berube was asked about the goaltender's play and praised his efforts for leading the comeback and reminding him of a former Leafs goaltender in the process.

Had the Leafs not been able to come back or Woll not made some of the saves he had, there would have been questions as to why Woll started over a rested Dennis Hildeby.

After Woll's performance on Saturday, it wouldn't be surprising for Berube and the Leafs to go right back to the 26-year-old Woll for Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
