Connor McDavid Giving Oilers Same Lip Service Mitch Marner Gave to Maple Leafs Before Leaving

Following another first-round loss to the Boston Bruins in April of 2024, Mitch Marner said he had every intention of extending with the Leafs.

While he didn't directly address his situation in training camp, he did release a video statement confirming negotiations were in progress and that he was thankful to be a member of the Maple Leafs. Well, we all know how that played out.

Weeks out from training camps beginning, Connor McDavid, along with other potential members of Team Canada, including the aforementioned Marner, met with the media in Calgary today at their Olympic orientation camp.

Of course, the first question asked during the media session was directed at the former first-overall pick and his negotiations with the Oilers.

Credit to McDavid for not shying away from answering, but his response was rather cryptic and similar to Marner's from last year.

When asked if he was content heading into the season without an extension, the Oilers Captain was quick to say that "all options are on the table."

All summer, McDavid and the Oilers have had to deal with reports about slow or non-existent negotiations, contract projections and the implications of entering the season without a new deal -- none of which appear to have bothered the Newmarket, Ontario native. But, given how Marner's situation played out in the end, Oilers fans should be a little on edge.
