There is a lot to like about Thursday night's trade between the Leafs and the Sharks, but these past comments from Henry Thrun might take the cake.

In a bit of a surprise twist, the Toronto Maple leafs orchestrated a late-night trade on Thursday night with the San Jose Sharks in which they acquired defenseman Henry Thrun in exchange for veteran enforcer Ryan Reaves.
While Thrun will have to work his tail off to make the opening night roster, he possesses a lot of intangibles that should have both the fan base and management excited for the 2025-26 season, which includes his confidence.
Recently, some comments from Thrun have resurfaced about his work ethic and his willingness to do whatever he can to become a number one NHL defenseman. Perhaps a change of scenery from rebuilding San Jose to the hot market that is Toronto can unlock those abilities.
The Massachusetts native stands in at 6'2 and 210 pounds, is a left-handed defenseman, and was selected in the 4th round by the Anaheim Ducks back in 2019. Thrun decided to forgo signing with the Ducks, which forced them to trade his right to San Jose in 2023.
In parts of 3 seasons, the 24-year-old has accumulated 5 goals and 25 points in 119 games, while seeing a healthy 18:44 ATOI per game. He's added 146 blocked shots and 73 hits as well and had been featured on both special teams units.
There's a lot to like about Thrun's game and even if he does start the year in the AHL, he should find his way back to the big club at some point during the season. However, playing for San Jose is a lot different than playing in Toronto, so it could be a bit of a learning experience for the youngster.
His low cap hit of just $1 million should also play a factor in how the Leafs run with their opening night roster.
Nevertheless, the confidence that he oozes should be a great test for both player and team as he enters training camp this fall with the hopes of securing a spot on the NHL roster.
